Men, Try These Books!

Thank you to all the children, teens and young adults that are frequent users of our library.  One purpose of "I love to Read" month is to get those that don't usually use the library to try it out!  Men, I am talking to you!  With that in mind, I have a few book reviews that I though you might be interested in.

A Man After God's Own Heart
By Jim George

God knows what it really takes for you to experience the satisfaction that comes from living a life of pupose.  In this book the author shares God's perfect design in your life for your marriage, your children, your work, your church and your witness.

Sharing Your Faith with a Muslim
By Abdiyah Akbar Abdul-Haqq

The author of this book is a third world Christian whose father was a convert from Islam.  An effective evangelistic approach to Muslims should be based on a study of Christ as He is found both in Scripture and the Koran.  Christ, then becomes the bridge between the two faiths.  Such a search is a natural means of introducing the Saviour.

This is just one of many books about sharing your faith with people of other cults and religions.  Check them out!

Turn Four
By Tom Morrisey

The story follows Chance Reynolds, a highly successful driver, who finds himself cut off from the career he's long pursued. He must deal with spiritual, financial, and relational questions. Along the way, he helps other beleaguered families in the world of racing.

Morrisey, author of Turn Four, has reported on NASCAR for many years, and he brilliantly evokes the sport.

Just one more thing, IF you come into the library on Sunday, February 21, 2010 and tell me any book that has been posted on this blog, You WILL win a prize!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The books we will have on display on Sunday will be all about love.  The love God has for us, the love we should have for God, the love we should have for our spouse, for family and our neighbours.

Doesn't the two greatest commands have to do with love.  Not the gushy kind of romantic love but love that has to do with sacrifice and giving up of yourself to give to another.

He said to them, "You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and  with all your mind. This is the greatest and foremost commandment."  The second is like it, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"  Matthew 22:37-39

It isn't neat how our marriages reflect the image of God and His three persons.  Sometimes it amazes me that I am the bride of Christ.  I start to really think about what kind of plans I am making as a bride to be ready for this marvelous wedding!

LOVE AND RESPECT really goes into the two desires that are major desires of men and women.

SACRED MARRIAGE.  There are many books written on building marriages.  But what if God's primary intent for your marriage isn't to make you happy...but holy?  What if your relationship isn't as much about and your spouse as it is about you and God?  View marriage in a different light after you read this book.

THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES.  Most people feel love in marriage in one of five ways: quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service and physical touch.  Though we have a primary love language, we can learn a second launguage so that our spouse's needs are met.

LOVE IS A VERB.  This is a compilation of true stories displaying love in action.  These stories-written by everyday people-go straight to the hearts of readers, who often say that illustrations are most effective parts of a book.  There is a "love lesson" at the end of each story.

So this Valentine's day, read a book about love, and then tell and show someone that you love them!

NEW BOOKS! SO EXCITING!

I am so excited about February being "I Love to Read" month.  I can really showcase the library and what it has to offer in this month.  I also enjoy having so many people be drawn to the library to look around and see the prizes, the goodies and the treats.  And of course, I love to read so I really want to share that love of reading with others.

The first book I would like to feature is Max Lucado's book 3:16, the numbers of hope.  If you never have read a Max Lucado book, try this one out where he really dissects John 3:16 chapter to give us christians the hope we have in Christ.

The next book, which we actually have the whole series  is The Sunrise series by Karen Kingsbury.  This is a book for anyone  to read about a feel good  family drama.  It is always well written with  a good message for lots of different age groups.  I would even recommend these books for young adult girls to read.

She Said Yes, The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall is a moving memoir written by Cassie's mom.  She is the girl from the Columbine shootings that when asked about her faith in God, she said "yes".  This is the story of her life and how she changed from being a troubled girl much like the shooters to becoming a young woman of faith and courage. This is a book that both parents and teens will want to read.

Will, God's Mighty Warrior is a new hardcover book for children that talks about Will, who loves to play at being a superhero and then learns about how to fight in God's army with God's armour.

Because of some book donations we have had lately some of the series, such as Love Comes Softly, The Russia Series  and Cheney Duvall, M.D. have been completed.  I know that sometimes frustrates me when the series isn't all there.  Also, if there is a book you think should be in our library, please tell me or leave the name of the book and the author in the comments section.  See you this month!
